Cinderella’s Leftovers by Julia Bonich
Cinderella’s Leftovers – a relic from a fairy tale gone slightly off-script. A dustpan and two surreal variations of brushes or combs, seemingly abandoned after the stroke of midnight, make up this peculiar assemblage of hair, recovery, glue, engraving and paint. The pieces evoke the ghostly remnants of forgotten labor—an enchanted cleaning ritual that never quite ended. Created exclusively for the thing Gallery in 2025, this unique art piece defies function, existing instead as a sculptural artifact of transformation and decay. Irregularities and imperfections are intentional, traces of its making. Handle with care, and above all—keep it away from heat.
In her work, artist Julia Bonich frequently incorporates “objets trouvés”, found objects, which she modifies to create new pieces. The resulting jagged forms and striking material combinations evoke both rococo aesthetics and the whimsical style of Disney princesses. Her series Cinderella’s Leftovers provokes and unsettles with its bold concept and extreme visual language.
The object weighs approximately 1,5 kg and has the following dimensions: 35 x 48 x 3 cm.
